
Bharti Airtel is the leading provider of mobile phone service in India is expected to be launched in Sri Lanka by the end of 2008. Already the Airtel has named Mr.Olof Haag, as its chairman for the Bharti Airtel Lanka (Private) Limited. The Airtel will be the fifth mobile service provider in Sri Lanka.
Airtel is very popular with Indian mobile phone users. It got nearly 72 million customers in India out of 300 million Indian mobile phone users.
People in Sri Lanka are expecting cheaper packages for calls and SMS services from the Airtel Lanka Ltd. Already there is big price cut down is going between the four mobile phone service providers of Sri Lanka. If the Airtel offers cheaper call and SMS rate for mobile phones, people may replace their older 250 Rs Sims with new airtel Sims.
More service providers will bring healthy competition for the benefit of the consumer.
