Low priced calling rates are offered in Sri Lanka on Independence and Republic days of many selected countries. For example If India is celebrating it's Independence day, then on that day SLT, Dialog and Airtel used to offer low tariff rates to their clients to call India within that 24 hours period.
Like wise most of the Sri Lanka's landline, mobile phone operators and CDMA phone operators used to provide low tariff rates to their valued customers on the Independence days or Republic days of ma ny countries in the world.
These companies used to announce this kind of rate cut for that particular day only. These phone companies used to announce this through newspaper advertisements on these days.
So if you are a foreigner and staying in Srilanka on your country's big day don't forget to check the major Sri Lanka newspapers to see whether your country gets any reduced call rate on that day, so you can call your loved ones back home to celebrate the great event.
Like wise Sri Lanka in India too many mobile phone operators too offer low tariff rates to their customers on their Independence to make national or long distance calls.
As a phone user you must understand that the calls taken from a land line is cheaper than the mobile phones.
Although in some countries price war over the mobile phone tariff makes cheaper to make calls through mobile phones rather than the land lines as many companies use the VoIP service to connect calls from their customers.
