Airtel, India's top rated mobile phone service provider with the investment of US$2000 million was expected to be launched in Sri Lanka on 23rd of December 2008. But it was delayed by the parent company in India.
There are nearly 6 million mobile phone users in Sri Lanka and more than half of them are connected with the Sri Lanka's leading mobile phone service provider Dialog.
Dialog already started to provide many low tariff plans for it's clients. Budget SMS is their latest one where a client can send one SMS text message of 100 characters for just 50 cents to another Dialog customer. Also they started to provide free SMS short messages with "Call me" between their Dialog clients where no one will be charged for that Free SMS.
So far there are no comments from the Airtel officers as most of the Sri Lanka mobile phone owners are looking forward to see what the new company is going to offer for the public. Already the younger generation is passing rumors as between the network free call and calling other networks as 90 cents.
