SMS text message system will be used to alert people in Sri Lanka through their mobile phones from the disaster management center.
The newly developed system will send SMS alerts which will consists the information of the type of alert and what the people should do to take care of them selves and others lives. The program was launched here in the New Year 2009.
The message is a broadcast and will reach the phone and will flash on the screen with scrolling messages.
It is expected to deliver SMS alerts for Tsunami warning, earthquake, flood or landslide warning, the disaster management centre will do send the alerts through the system to all mobile phones free of charge.
