Mobile Phone Carriers in Nigeria Fined.

Nigerian people heavily depend on mobile phones as the state run land line telephone company has collapsed and no foreign company likes to take up the project. So, all the phone users in Nigeria has to depend on the mobile phone service providers to communicate with others. And these mobile phone service providers too are with poor quality service where a good Nigerian businessman has to carry four number of mobile phones with four different company SIM cards to be sure to be in connection with the other business people.

Recently the Nigeria Communications Regulators warned all the four mobile phone carriers Bharti Airtel, Etisalat, MTN and the Globacom about the poor service, dropped calls and bad line quality. And they gave January and February to be a grace period to improve their services and as it didn't improved had imposed a total fine of US$ 7.3 Million for the Months of March and April.

MTN the largest provider in Nigeria has 41.1 million subscribers under it. Mean while Etisalat got more than 12 million subscribers in Nigeria. According to the Etisalat Nigeria officials "the failure to hit some of the quality measures" in part on industry wide difficulties including a lack of reliable power, accidental damage to transmission lines and occasional sabotage.

Nigeria's mobile phone calling rates are very low per minute, when comparing it with the developed countries phone call charge.

Mean while the much talked Samsung Galaxy S3 Smartphone is expected to be availabble in Nigeria soon. Pre orders are accepted by the retailers.
