Vehicle's details through SMS
In India, Madhya Pradesh Govt's transport department web site allowed people to get information from their web site if they want to know the owner's details and of their vehicle if any one send an SMS to 98270-20002.
There are rumors that some people took advantage of this to get women driver's details, if people see a woman driving a vehicle, all they have to do was just send an SMS and they will get the details of the vehicle and the owner's as returned SMS to the sender's mobile phone.
If it is a woman's registered vehicle then her identification are revelled.
The program was initially introduced to help the police to find out the details of vehicles invloved in accidents , Hit and run, hijacked and so on. Also it helped buyers and sellers to use SMS and find about the vehicles necessary details in seconds.
The Deputy Transport Commissioner who received some complaints about this said “When we analysed the data, we found that most SMSes sought details of vehicles registered in the name of young women,”.
Now that number has been changed to 53030 and does not provide address and other details any more. Also now the person need a vehicles information must use internet enabled computer or Mobile phone to get those details.
